Working directly with the schools and physician offices, the Center for Healthy Children takes referrals of overweight children who have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 25 or greater. Our target ages for the center at this time is middle school children around 10-12 years old. It is our goal to teach the participating children and their families nutrition education and exercise habits that will last a lifetime. Classes include healthy cooking, basic nutrition, grocery shopping and label reading. We encourage active lifestyles and family activities. Having the center located at the NEA Baptist Clinic Wellness Center enables us to help the families become active.
Center for Healthy Children Application
The CHC is a FREE program for motivated families and kids who want to make appropriate lifestyle modifications in order to lose weight, gain self-confidence and improve overall health.
Each program consists of several months of exercise, education and measurements. There is an interview process that takes place at the beginning of each school semester to ensure that the most motivated families will be chosen. Additional activities provided by the Center for Healthy Children include a summer camp called The Healthy Kids Club, and our After School Exercise Program that is located at many different schools in the area. We also partner with local schools to teach educational classes for children and conduct seminars for large groups in the community.
To qualify for the CHC program, each child must have a Body Mass Index of 25 or greater (BMI).
